Article:
Ten years ago, “online car insurance quotes” meant that the
agents you called had email addresses, and sent quotes to
prospective clients that way, rather than a bundle of paper sent
through the post office. Still, though, the process started with
at least a voice-to-voice telephone conversation if not a
personal appointment.
If a potential client wouldn’t personally come in to the office
for a meeting, most insurance agents, back then, wouldn’t even
consider giving them a quote. It used to be ridiculous to
consider that agents wouldn’t use their greatest strategy for
obtaining customers.
A lot has changed for relationship-focused agents as they are
being replaced more and more by price-focused, highly automated
website sales. The young and urban demographic, which prefers
the web to all other media, are the prime movers of this change.
As companies make the change towards websites, the older and
less technologically savvy customers will be forced to use these
websites as their agents become less effective in comparison.
With people becoming busier and busier, online car insurance
quotes have steadily increased in popularity. Clients are now
more willing to make big purchases without ever seeing a
salesperson and more aware of the terminology involved and the
options they can purchase. In short, clients demand more
self-service than in previous years.
The result of all of this is that previously unknown car
insurance providers have become household names almost
overnight. Millions of customers seek out a free
auto insurance quote and inexpensive insurance that the
largest companies would not provide. The market leaders found
that they had to play catch up because small companies had found
a way to become major players.
Now almost all carriers can provide online car insurance quotes, with
the largest carriers jumping in to keep pace with the market.
The numbers keep increasing but this is really good news for
insurance shoppers. The more companies who are competing for
your business the more advantage to the person seeking the best
buy on a policy.
The discount car insurance industry has
been changed forever by technology. Ten years ago, before
promises of free quotes and huge savings become the norm, it was
far more difficult to get quotes and take the time to compare
them properly. There are many new competitors in the car
insurance business, all seeking to make their mark through lower
prices and/or better service when you need them.

In the past, it would have been unthinkable for insurance agents
to forego the use of their greatest marketing leverage. Most
agents refused to give a potential client a quote unless that
person was prepared to meet in person.
