With new research showing that around a quarter of deaths that
occur on UK roads happened while the driver was working this
could see an increase in employers’ motor insurance premiums.
Insurance companies jump on anything that gives them a chance to
increase the cost of insurance so with the Department of
Transportation figures revealing that the number of people
killed in driving accidents whilst at work was 858 last year and
over 6,000 people injured, it seems a likely possibility.

The figures are indeed shocking and those who rely on driving
for their living
could soon be facing increased premiums on
their motor insurance. One way of getting a good quality policy
while at the same time being assured of getting the cheapest
possible premiums for your circumstances is to go to a
specialist broker and if you are self-employed and rely on
driving as a living then this is essential.

Another factor which targets those who rely on driving for a
living and which affects their premiums is nodding asleep at the
wheel.
While anyone can do this working and driving long hours
puts you at bigger risk. 40% of drivers have admitted that they
have at sometime found themselves becoming drowsy and nodding of
whilst driving, which does nothing to boost safety and keep
premiums down. Those who travel long distances as part of their
work day should take regular breaks and if necessary book into a
hotel and get some sleep. Doing so can not only save your life
and that of other innocent motorists, but also help to keep car
insurance premiums down by not having to make a claim.

Having a drink is another factor which causes a majority of
accidents and road deaths and especially during the Christmas
period when workers are having office parties. Drinking and
driving not only boosts up the cost of car insurance premiums
but far more importantly it is illegal and ruins lives. Even if
you only have one drink you are more at risk of being the cause
of an accident as your reactions are slower and also of nodding
off. Alcohol will increase your chances of falling asleep whilst
driving, particularly if you have been driving all day so
leaving the car at work after drinking and getting a taxi home
is the most sensible option all-round.

After following the sensible advice above a specialist broker
will be able to shop around on your behalf for the cheapest
motor insurance premiums
for insurance while at the same time
making sure that you have adequate insurance for your needs.
Along with premiums being higher just because you rely on your
car for work there are many other factors which determine how
much your car insurance premiums will be. Your age is taken into
account as is the size of the engine in the car, the make and
model and how many years experience you have in driving. A
specialist will take all of these into account when it comes to
searching with the top lenders so they can get you the best deal
possible.
